Apples

You tell me you’re hungry. I leave and come back with two apples to choose from. One has been bitten a half-dozen times or so by unknown people and the inside is beginning to brown and the other is fresh — I just pulled it off of the tree, washed it, and even made a wish as I twisted the stem out of the top. Which one would you prefer?

Yeah, not the half-eaten apple. Because not many people like eating other people’s food, especially if they don’t know who started eating it in the first place.

It’s the same way with our purity. We don’t want to carry around the half-eaten apple between arriving at school and getting to lunch because it probably won’t be very good by then. But the fresh apple with be perfectly fine. So why would I want to date a girl who has given bits and pieces of herself to other guys, leaving nearly nothing for someone who is going to commit to being with her forever? I would much prefer to date a girl who has kept herself fresh and pure for the moment where she can give all of herself, sparing none, to that one lucky guy.

And if that’s what I expect from a woman, that’s also what I need to be like. Instead of running around giving bits and pieces of myself physically and emotionally to other girls, I need to be protecting myself and saving myself for that one day when that awesome woman is going to want everything from me. I want to be able to give her that. And just as I don’t like the idea of eating other people’s half-eaten food, I’ve got to assume that she doesn’t either. It’s only fair.
